Just a quick update from the MRQC committee on how things are going for the Convention. It is just 3 weeks away, and one week to the close of Registrations.

A few weeks ago we had to make a call on numbers for some items required on the day and the convention packs. These were made on registrations received plus a few extras based on indications of modellers expressing interest. Currently, we have less than 10 spots left on these numbers. We can take more, but there will be some compromises of sort.

In a couple of weeks we need to place catering orders for both the lunch and the BBQ. More than half of the Delegates registered are staying for the Happy Hour, BBQ and Presentation on “Working the Mackay Sugar Season in 67”. In putting this presentation together I find myself asking ‘if only we could do it again’. The late 60’s was a great era in QR history, I call it the “Golden Years”. There is so much on offer for the modeller too. For this part of the day the catering is being carried out by another association, orders on the day cannot be accepted. If your situation has changed and you would like to stay for this informal part of the convention, please let us know as we have to make the payment with the order.

We have also been asked if Delegates can sell their unwanted QR/NSWR rollingstock or items. Some are looking to update to newer RTR items and would like to sell their older equipment in order to do so. At our last meeting consideration was given to this request. A committee person has agreed to man a table where Delegates can leave items they wish to sell and collect monies on their behalf, or point you in the right direction if you would like to make an offer. The committee will not be asking a commission on items sold, but there will be a limit to the number of items that can be offered for sale.

Don’t forget to bring a model to display, seeing what others are doing can be great inspiration to modellers. Likewise this works both ways, you to see what other modellers are doing. During the Scenery / Modelling Form some will be given an opportunity to share their experience on building/modifying their exhibit.

Registration Desk will be open at 11:00 am, the billy will be on for Morning Tea in readiness to start at 11:30 am with the Introductions, the first Presentation starts at 11:45.

Information for the Convention can be found on the convention website www.qldrailheritage.com/mrqc. Registration form attached.

It is coming together nicely, and should be an awesome weekend packed with information for the Queensland / New South Wales Modeller. The offer of assistance has been out of this world, thank you so much for your support.

I look forward to catching up with you again.
